Instructions
Preparing the tangzhong:
-
In a small saucepan, combine the flour and water until no clumps remain.
-
Place the saucepan over low heat and cook, stirring constantly, until it becomes a thick paste, about 3-5 minutes.
-
Cover and let cool to room temp.
Making the dough:
-
In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and milk powder. Add the milk, egg, and tangzhong. Knead—by hand, stand mixer, or bread machine—until combined. Add the butter, and continue kneading until a smooth, elastic dough forms
-
Cover and let rise until double in size, about 45-60 minutes.
-
Punch the dough to deflate it. Divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball.
-
Using a rolling pin, flatten each dough ball out into a rectangle. Then, roll it tightly from one end to the other, to form a log shape. Pinch in the seams. Repeat with the rest of the dough balls.
-
Arrange the rolls side by side in a greased baking dish, so they’re loosely touching each other. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
-
Whisk together the egg and milk. Brush on the egg wash, and sprinkle on sesame seeds.
-
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown. Allow to cool.
Assembly:
-
In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter with salt and garlic powder in the microwave, about 1 minute.
-
Pull apart the bread rolls. Brush both sides with the garlic butter, then toast both sides in a pan over medium heat, until golden brown.
-
Enjoy immediately. THEY’RE SO GOOD FRESH!!!
